What is Twitter? Twitter is often calling 'micro blogging'. However, instead of writing a full blog post (like you're reading now), you have 140 characters to make quick updates in real time. You can see others doing the same thing too.
How do I get started? Go to Twitter and sign up with your name, pick a username, confirm your account and start making updates. When you have friends to follow, you'll see their 'tweets' or updates on your page.
How do I make friends? There's a handy function that allows you to sign in to your Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail and MSN so that you can find which of your friends have already signed up. Click 'follow' under their image to follow their updates. You can see a list of who you are following and who is following you under your image on your Twitter homepage.Click on someone else's username to find out who they're following.
Tell me some Twitter etiquette! Alright then, to direct a message at a particular person type @theirname and your message. The reply message will show up in their replies tab. D username and message means a private message only they can see. FAV username will add that user's last message to your favourite's list. a help section can be found here.
Help, I don't like someone who is following me. You need to 'block' that person. To do this, go to that person's profile page and look for the word block on the right sidebar. Click it. They won't be notified that you have blocked them and they won't be able to see any of your updates anymore. If you've been following them, you can use the 'remove' button to stop receiving their updates.
I've heard celebs use Twitter too, where can I find them? There are a whole host of celebtwits (heh!). Here's a few well known names with links to their Twitter in brackets for starters. Stephen Fry (stephenfry), Philip Schofield (schofe), Ricky Gervais (therickygervais), Jonathan Ross (Wossy) Mischa Barton (MischaBarton), Alan Carr (alancarr) and Britney Spears (britneyspears).
