Get your coffee in three seconds flat with the Tefal QuickCup

For a bedroom or homeoffice, a hot'n'cold drinks maker like this is ideal. It doesn't clutter up too much space and you have a ready access to your tea or coffee without having to head over to the kitchen. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's pretty stylish too.

Operation has been kept minimal - push a button and within three seconds, filtered and heated 220ml of water is dispensed into your cup. Press the button for more water and press again to halt it. Tefal are claiming eco credentials on this one as it only heats the water you need thus saving up to 65% of energy when compared to a normal kettle.

Solar-powered mobile phone from Digicel

It seems somewhat odd that there is a solar-powered mobile phone. Who would have thought that could happen? Yet it has thanks to those clever people at Digicel who have been supplying low cost and solar phones since 2008. The phone has an integrated solar charger and it's actually rather nice looking, isn't it?

I don't know if it might be pushing it in the UK with the intermittent sun, but for 2 billion people worldwide who don't have access to electricity for charging, this phone could be a lifesaver. Details are somewhat sketchy so I can't 'big up' any features and thus assume it might be rather basic. It'll be out in selected markets in June.

Water powered H2O alarm clock

Every made a recipe where the only instruction was 'just add water'? Well, that's the idea with this alarm clock. It's powered by water, with a electrochemical reaction and you just top it up when supplies run low. Fortunately you won't have to do that every bedtime as it should only need topping up every three months.

It's green, it has recylable components and it's quite a cool idea. It costs 319.99 at the Gadget Shop.

Green gadget! Nokia N79 Eco phone supports WWF

Nokia have followed up their previous green phone with a new N79 Eco version ready for pre-order. And there's one thing noticeably missing from the box - the charger. You see, Nokia don't think you need yet another charger, just use your old one as they're 'proud to reuse.' As part of their trial to save energy and reduce waste they'll send it in a smaller box and donate £4 out of the £319 cost to the WWF. If you follow up the sale with theior survey, Nokia will also give you a discount towards an online accessory purchase.

Boots offers up to 5000 points for your recycled mobile phone

Boots are offering advantage card points in return for your old recycled mobile phones and 100 points for spent inkjet cartridges. Up to 5000 points are on offer (worth a grand total of £50 for the phones and £1 for the catridges) if you send in your old model. The process is quite easy, register online, send them in the freepost envelope then pick up your points at kiosks in store.

This service is worthwhile if you've got an old phone stashed in a cupboard and you want to make some cash from it. I checked how much I'd get for the old Nokia N70 I have left to gather dust and found that to be worth 2,250 points (£22.50). However, if your phone doens't work the points reward is significantly reduced.

Apple introduces 17-inch Macbook Pro

Apple's new 17-inch MacBook Pro boasts a new built-in battery that promises to deliver eight hours of use and recharge up to 1000 times, more than three times the lifespan of your average notebook battery. The aluminium framed laptop is 0.98-inches thin and weighs 6.6 pounds making it the lightest and thinnest 17-inch around. Included are the built-in iSight® video camera, mic and speakers, large glass Multi-Touch™ trackpad. Apple are also pushing the green credentials on this laptop: it's made of highly recyclable aluminium materials, meets energy efficiency standards and the LED-backlit display emits 30% less energy and it uses PVC-free cables and components.

The new MacBook Pro will be on sale from end of January and retail for around £1,949 at Apple.
